Both types of home provide help with personal care needs, meals, and accommodation. In addition, nursing homes have qualified nurses on duty, who can provide nursing and rehabilitation services for people with more medical needs. Old folks home requires registration with the welfare department, while nursing home requires registration with ministry of health, Malaysia. 

A home or care center must meet a series of stringent criteria set by the Ministry of Health, Malaysia, and complete its registration with the authority before it qualifies as a licensed nursing home. There are annual qualification checks that a home needs to undergo before it can renew its license as well. Only upon obtaining the license can one use the term "nursing home" or “kejururawatan berlesen”, which means “licensed nursing” on their company signboard.

When visiting a home, a quick way to verify if it is licensed is to look for these terms “kejururawatan berlesen” or "nursing home" on the company signboard. Be aware that a home or care center may use the English term “nursing home” on its website but it may not be qualified to do so, as enforcement officers will not check the company website. To be prudent, you may also want to verify the official license before admitting a loved one.

It is important to note that you may not need to look for a nursing home if there are no medical conditions or nursing care requirements. An old folks' home may work for your needs as well.

The monthly cost of nursing homes in Johor Bahru is as follows:

Basic home providers charge RM 1,500 - RM 2,500.

Comprehensive home providers charge RM 3,000 - RM 5,000.

Premium home providers charge RM 5,000 - RM 7,000 and above.

Yes, we have in-house certified physiotherapist. Our current charge rate is @ RM40 per hour.

Yes, we partnered with an experienced external TCM provider. TCM consultation and acupuncture services are available on demand. Current charge rate is @ RM100 per hour.
